SESSION BY DR. T.P SASIKUMAR AT INDIAN SCHOOL SALALAH
Noted Indian Space Research Scientist (Retired),
Educationist and soft skill trainer, Dr. T.P. Sasikumar, conducted a soft
skill session for the faculty heads, in charges, secondary and Senior
Secondary students of Indian School Salalah on 7th and 8th of
October. Dr. Sasikumar is known for his multifaceted skills and in depth
knowledge of a wide range of fields which include Veda, Sanskrit, Kerala
martial arts, Mathematics, technology management and remote sensing. Apart
from these skills, he is a well known film critique and Yoga Guru. His
passion for teaching and training young and adults alike is known to many who
know him personally.
On 7th October, the session for
the faculty heads and in charges began with a welcome address by Chidambaram
Ramasamy, HOD English who welcomed the guest speaker, Dr.T.P.Sasikumar, the
President of the school management committee, Mr.Ram Santhanam and other
esteemed members of SMC. After the welcome, Mr. Ramasamy introduced the guest
speaker to the audience. Dr.T.P.Sasikumar in his address expressed his
happiness to be in the school for the session and he said that teaching is
his inner passion in spite of being a scientist for nearly two decades. Since
2009, the speaker has interacted with lakhs of students and teachers and
shared his interesting experiences that would motivate the audience.
In his advice for the faculty of teachers,
he asked the teachers to inspire their students so that they shall aspire. He
also said the students should be educated to gain knowledge and not jobs.
While talking about the teaching methodology, the speaker felt that a student
should know how to read a newspaper and he also highlighted the importance of
newspaper knowledge in facing competitive exams. The talk was followed by an
interesting interactive session, where the guest speaker answered the queries
of the teachers. Dr. Debashish Bhattacharya, member of SMC, in his vote of
thanks, expressed his gratitude for the speaker’s valuable time with the
faculty heads and how he had been a source of inspiration to all those who
attended the session.
The session for the secondary students began with
welcome address by Helen Terese of class 10th. In her address she
welcomed Dr. Sasikumar for visiting Indian School Salalah, which is far away
from the capital region, to share his knowledge with them. She thanked the
School Management Committee for ensuring to arrange interactive sessions for
the students with great scientists and charismatic personalities from time to
time which have broadened their horizons. The welcome address was followed by
a brief introduction of the recourse person by school vice principal, Mrs.
Omana Mathews. Mrs. Mathews gave a gist of his interaction and talk with the
Heads of various academic departments of the school. She gave a hint on
how interesting and beneficial the session would be which turned out to be
true to the core.
During the first session for the secondary school
students, he began with the humorous side of the life to make the atmosphere
lighter. From then onwards, the students sailed along with him and they
realized how learning can be made lighter, easier and funny, provided they
change their attitude, approach and adapt a few easy tricks. The tips on
group learning appealed to one and all present there. His full form for LIFE-
Learn in Full Enjoyment- was appreciated by everyone. He was emphatic about
one’s choice of friends. To convince the students, he gave the example of
Mahabharata, the great Indian Epic. Dr. Sasikumar touched on many subjects
which included Maths, Science, Social Science and Literature. He made a
mention of the advancement of geography and science as early as the Vedic
period and stressed upon the need to know our past to progress rapidly. He
highlighted the everyday application of science since ancient time, such as
reducing the body language by holding water in palm before bath. His profound
knowledge in all the areas he dealt with helped in continuing the session
without losing momentum. The first session concluded with vote of thanks
proposed by Hridith Sudev of class 10.
The session for the senior secondary students
began with a welcome address by Miss Deborah Julius of class 11. The
Assistant Vice Principal, Mr.S.Srinivasan addressed the audience and
introduced the Guest of Honour and termed the session as going to be “an
entirely different experience”. Miss Rizwana, an alumni of ISS while sharing
her experience with Dr. T.P. Sasikumar stated that her association with him
was a metamorphic one.
The very first greeting of Dr. T.P. Sasikumar
began with a “Namaskaram” that harbingered a lot many ideals and principles
to follow in his speech. The next 120 minutes, which for any student
might seem to be a prolonged time, turned out to be untiringly
delightful. He advocated the students to make ‘IAS’- Immediate
Academic Success through Inspire
Aspire Success, the principal objective in one’s life. He
exhorted them to share knowledge and be a continuous provider of wisdom so as
to receive it manifold. He urged the zealous young buzz to grab
the gift of the gab and asserted on the importance of improving one’s
vocabulary, language and writing skills. He also guided the students to
increase their concentration, awaken their hearts, follow healthy habits and
learn from each and every experience in life. An expert in multifarious
fields, Dr. T.P. Sasikumar captivated the attention of the gathering with
humourous examples, Sanskrit shlokas from Vedas, verses in Malayalam and
historical anecdotes that made the session even more interesting and
thought-provoking.
A question-answer session at the end of the
lecture helped the students clear their doubts. As a token of love and
affection, Mr.Ram Santhanam, President of SMC, presented a memento to
Dr.T.P.Sasikumar. The President of the SMC, Mr. Ram Santhanam expressed
his gratitude and Master Joel Nithilan Bhaskar of Class XI proposed the vote
of thanks. The motivation Dr.T.P.Sasikumar provided throughout the
session was hovering around the auditorium. The students of Indian School
Salalah did carry home a message – ‘one’s life should be worth living it’.
